Jim Getto

Jim Getto began his career in the ad valorem/property tax industry in 1979. He initially worked for the Douglas County Assessor (Castle Rock, Colorado) from 1979 to 1981 where he was one of two appraisers responsible for valuing all real estate in the county. Properties types ranged from complex industrial facilities to elaborate residential estates to simple mountain cabins. Mr. Getto was subsequently hired by the Dallas Central Appraisal District in 1981 to participate in the first revaluation completed by a Texas Appraisal District. His experience with DCAD was in the commercial division from 1981 to 1983.

Jim then changed his business attention to real estate appraising from 1983 to 1995. He co-founded a commercial appraisal firm where he developed broad experience valuing diverse types of commercial properties including complex retail, office, industrial, and multifamily facilities. The appraisal assignments were ordered by local and national financial institutions, state, county and city governments, various public utility entities, private estates as well as individual property owners. During this time Mr. Getto earned the prestigious MAI designation.

In 1995 Jim was hired by a Houston based Tax Consulting Company (Novotny & Company) as the Dallas Regional Director. Mr. Getto worked in this position as a full time property tax consultant until 1997 when he established J G Consulting, a real estate appraisal and property tax consulting firm. Jim has extensive property tax consulting experience representing complex retail, office, industrial, and multifamily facilities. During the past two years, Gerald and Jim have worked together on numerous property tax consulting assignments resulting in saving clients several hundred thousand dollars in property tax liabilities.
